Checked Off launches with a real free tier, not a trial. There’s no countdown, no expiration date, and no clock forcing a decision on you.
What’s in the free tier
Our free tier currently includes up to 5 projects, with unlimited tasks within each. That gets you:
- Full functionality for tasks and rich text fields
- MCP AI access, if you choose to use it
- Routines
We do plan to eventually charge for multi-device sync, a higher project limit, and possibly other features that cost us to build, deliver, or maintain.
The problem with countdown timers
Low pressure is kind of our thing. A common pattern for apps is full access for a set number of days, then a paywall. Fourteen days is a typical length. Once the countdown ends, you either pay or lose functionality.
A countdown timer is its own kind of pressure mechanic. It puts a deadline on a tool that’s supposed to reduce pressure, not add it, and that’s the same reason we stay away from streaks and overdue counts elsewhere in the app. It wouldn’t make sense to avoid that pressure everywhere else and then reintroduce it in billing.
What “free” actually means here
So “free” here means an actual, ongoing tier, not a limited-time preview meant to convert you before it expires. You can use it for as long as you want, with no clock running out on you.
This is also consistent with something we care about generally: pricing you can understand. What you see on the free tier is what you get, and if you choose to upgrade later, that’s a decision you make on your own timeline, not one forced by an expiration date.
This isn’t a launch discount or a promotion that goes away later. It’s the posture we’re launching the public beta with, and the one we intend to keep.
